walking through the discount store. im taking quick glances at the dirty glass to catch a glimpse of my once toned and chiseled ass. i take each step and add my own sound effects. squish squish squish; the sound of my buttocks rubbing against my cheap denim jeans. i'm wondering how much worse i'd feel in a normal environment. one full of other women to be envious of. the ones that have it easy. that look good in anything and get whistled at walking down the street, hit on at the bar, at the mall, the market, the hospital. i'm pathetic. green with envy, flabby with cellulite thighs.

i'm sitting at my desk. in my cubicle. surrounded by paperweights, file cabinets and candy jars. i unwrap a piece of mini sized milk chocolate & suddenly remember that chocolate goes straight to my love handles. i wrap it back up, throw it in the trash and lay out a sigh of triumph and relief. i wonder if the quotes of wisdom etched into the foil are supposed to distract me from ravaging that silky smooth tablespoon of refined sugar that i usually enjoy. getting it stuck on my top and bottom molars as it stains my two front teeth.

before bed i'm staring at the medicine cabinet mirror again. does my face look fatter? is that crease in my neck a double chin? back on the scale and i've apparently lost 5 pounds in a week. i move the scale around the room, let it rest. nope. fooled. i'm sure those things expire after so many uses and after much time in the bathroom i'm on amazon.com looking for an extra high-waisted pair of spanx.

to hell with aging, to hell with gravity. you've taken my once oogled derrière.

i'm not a fan of hearing other people's ideals and ideas when it comes to love. i think the term is overused and a lot of theories seem to become superfluous and at most times, banal. i don't want to contradict my point here.... or be a hypocrite and profess to you all what love is; but, i can assure you that love is just the act of caring and affection with a certain amount of vigor and depth. i can love a book, i can love someone- but furthermore; sex is not love.

i'm glad that i made the trip to barne's last weekend just to escape for half an hour before climbing into bed. matt and i bought a 2 for 1 deal and i came across two reads about New York. i'm not even done with the first chapter of Netherland, but i am wholly enthralled by O'Neill's writing. the first couple of pages were surprising to me; i didn't imagine myself becoming intrigued by such a modern plot. i'm entertained by the fact that after every few sentences i find myself researching on google & dictionary.com to find & understand phrases, words and references i read in the text. the visages he paints of manhattan, brooklyn, jersey etc... are consuming and create brief interludes in between paragraphs as i read. i sit, i imagine, i dream of New York. grab this book. you will not be disappointed.

This here is just a prolgoue, the preface...an introduction or a mere beginning to a future post i've had churning up in my head for days. The subject is the beloved Annie Leibovitz and the subject matter is of course, my love for this women's photography. American Music is just one example of my unrequited passion for her career. It is all things americana and every page of this book has its own precious quality. North America is a big place and music here has transitioned, has been innovated, has been BORN. Leibovitz worked for Rolling Stone magazine for 13 years and this exhibition of images she says, "came from a desire to return to my original subject and look at it with a mature eye. Bring my experience to it…make it a real American tapestry." Honky tonk, jazz, folk, blues, rock n roll.... all of these wonderful things are meshed together into a few pages of glory. The landscape of America is composed into this harmonious collection of imagery.

The camera comes in two different colors; an Hermès' signature "etoupe" and a bright orange (both in leather). Imagine one of the most expensive and luxurious cameras on the market intermixed with the design of one of the most luxurious designers in the fashion industry....hmmmm. Only 200 available and each around $14,000. if only i had the dough to buy one of these babies!

limited edition Leica M8 digital rangefinder camera in all white. Now, in terms of design, this piece of equipment is all it should be- sleek, clean, geometric, modern...HOWEVER, in my hands, this pretty baby would be dirty after just a few hours. For use, I'd stick to a Leica film camera...all black, heavy duty, built for the artist/ laborer. You know, the kind that Eve Arnold, Elliot Erwitt, Robert Frank, and Cartier-Bresson used....
