Tim Barber grew up in Amherst Massachusetts, lived for a few years in the mountains of Northern Vermont, studied photography in Vancouver B.C. and now lives in New York City. A photographer, curator, publisher and designer, Barber runs the online gallery http://www.tinyvices.com/, where visitors are encouraged to submit their photographs and artwork. He launched the independent publishing house TV Books in 2008, producing unique books, artists monographs, zines and posters and has recently curated a series of five photography books published by the Aperture Foundation.

Lykke Li + Royksopp

This week, I googled Royksopp to see if there was anything new to discover. I came across Stereogum.com who had featured a sample of this song, Miss It So Much, featuring Robyn during March of this year. I'm totally in love with the desperately in love lyrics and the soft/slow happy chimes of the xylophone (at least thats what it sounds like...) really compliment Robyn's angelic vox. Love!

and a picture of Sharon Shy of The Ropes. I'm not particulary partial to their music, but love Sharon's look. I love the DOF/ composition of her positioning via the marbles. Very eye-catching.

FAMILY

Last Friday, I picked up, Family, by Lauren Dukoff. I am completely inspired by Lauren Dukoff's photography and am happy with this book's charm. When I first saw the title on the bookshelf, I thought..."hmmm, like a photo album?" I grabbed it, looked at two photos and quickly took it up to the register. The text in the beginning is insightful. There is no outstanding or extraordinary summary, explanation or life-lesson. Its plainly heartfelt stories by Devendra and Lauren- giving readers a tiny look into their history and lifestyles. I've read some negative and so-so comments on the book, yet, this hasn't swayed my opinion at all. I love Lauren's portraiture, and just as she says that her photos were just quick and uncomfortable quick shutters of the people she hung out with, that feeling really does jump off the page. I'm always looking for portraits of artists. These photos are the most prominent example or what I'm aesthetically drawn to. Its a photo album of friends and I enjoy that.
